  INTERNATIONALLY ACCLAIMED                  COMPLIANCE

Packaging World holds the internationally recognised British Retail Consortium (BRC) standard of compliance certification – a Standard that is fast becoming regarded as the benchmark for best practices worldwide.
The BRC Global Standards are a suite of four industry-leading Technical Standards that specify requirements to be met by an organisation to enable the production, packaging, storage and distribution of safe food and consumer products.

Originally developed in response to the needs of UK members of the British Retail Consortium, the Standards have gained usage world-wide and are specified by growing numbers of retailers and branded manufacturers in the EU, North America and further afield.

Certification to a Global Standard, which is achieved through audit by a third party Certification Bodies, reassures retailers and branded manufacturers of the capability and competence of the supplier, and reduces the need for retailers and manufacturers to carry out their own audits, thus reducing the administrative burden on both the supplier and the customer.

This rigorous international standard requires the adoption and implementation of HACCP, a food hygiene management system, a documented and effective Quality Management System (QMS) and control of the factory environment, product, process and personnel.

  SCIENTIFIC BACKUP

university logo0302

At Packaging World we understand that shelf life is of the utmost importance to producers and retailers. We therefore work in partnership with our customers to find solutions to all issue affecting fresh produce shelf life.

Packaging World has therefore linked up with the Department of Agriculture at KZN University in Pietermaritzburg, which acts as our technical arm. The laboratories at the University are used to trial and test every product. Recommendations will include optimal perforation patterning on the MAP bags and other R&D value-added input.

  MARKET DRIVEN MANUFACTURING

The Packaging World factory boasts a specialised Positive Air Flow production area
This is complemented by new state-of-the-art specialist bag-makers that have been installed to handle the growing demand.  We can therefore offer bagging facilities for biltong, vacuum bags and pouching. The bag makers are interchangeable and we are not therefore limited to run one design on a specific bag maker. We believe this is one of our true differentials in the market as we can offer customers greater flexibility.

Our latest acquisition is a state of the art laser perforating machine featuring the latest technology. This machine is the only one of its kind in the southern hemisphere and offers many innovative products in the competitive MAP area – it can security scribe, form any shape, size and laser holes in the packaging, scribe the plastics for easy tearing for specific requirements and also multi laminated substrates.

We also have state-of-the-art slitting and rewinding facilities available.

  BEE STATUS

Packaging World’s BEE Status is currently sitting at Level 4. We are introducing initiatives to improve this to Level 3 by 2010.
